[ Story ]
The latest animated film by Miyazaki Hayao of Spirited Away from Studio Ghibli after four years since Howl’s Moving Castle. It was created without using CG, valuing expressions achieved through drawing by hand. A fantasy based on Andersen’s The Little Mermaid takes place in modern Japan. The film was the number one box-office hit in Japan in 2008, and the theme song of the same title was also a big hit. It was entered into the Competition section at the 65th Venice International Film Festival.
Sosuke, a boy who lives on a cliff, rescues Ponyo, a little fish, with her head stuck in a jam jar. Ponyo becomes very fond of Sosuke and decides to become human so that she can stay with him, but her father Fujimoto takes her back to the sea by force. Ponyo uses her father’s magic to break away and rushes back to Sosuke at the cliff top. The powerful magic, however, brings imbalance to the world and causes a great flood.
